  • Download and install the software on devices you own or control.
  • Use the software for personal or commercial audio production purposes.

This license does not include the right to sublicense, sell, resell, transfer, assign, or otherwise commercially exploit the software itself.

3. Restrictions

You agree that you will not:

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive the source code of the software, except to the extent permitted by applicable law.
  • Modify, adapt, translate, or create derivative works based on the software.

Any other trademarks, service marks, logos, trade names, and any other proprietary designations are the trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective parties.

5. Pricing & Payments

Some Growl Audio plugins, including gFractor, are provided free of charge. Other plugins may require a one-time purchase or subscription. Pricing for each product is listed on its respective page. Voluntary donations for free products do not entitle you to additional features, priority support, or other benefits unless explicitly stated. For refund rights, see our Refund Policy below.

We reserve the right to change the pricing model of any software at any time, with or without notice.

Growl Audio does not warrant or make any representations regarding the use or the results of the use of the software in terms of their correctness, accuracy, reliability, or otherwise.

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL GROWL AUDIO, ITS AFFILIATES, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, LICENSORS, OR SERVICE PROVIDERS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, USE, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, RESULTING FROM:

Privacy Policy

P1. Overview

Growl Audio ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you visit our website at growl-audio.com or use our software.

Our core principle: we never sell your personal data, and we collect only what you actively choose to give us — see P5 and P6 for exactly what that is and how long we keep it. Our plugins run entirely on your machine and have no network connectivity. Patchbay, our audio-routing app, connects to the internet for licensing and updates; P3 describes exactly what it sends.

P2. Information Our Software Does Not Collect

Our plugins (including gFractor) do not collect any of the following:

  • Personal identifiers (name, email, IP address).
  • Usage data or telemetry of any kind.
  • Audio content or project data.
  • Device information or hardware identifiers.
  • Crash reports or diagnostic data.

There is no license activation, registration, or internet connection required to use our plugins. Patchbay is the exception and is covered in P3.

P3. Patchbay

Patchbay is our macOS app for routing audio between applications and devices. Unlike our plugins, it needs a license and checks for updates, so it connects to the internet. It never sends your audio anywhere, and it contains no analytics or usage tracking. It sends data in the three cases below, and only these.

License activation and checks. When you activate a license, and about once a day afterwards, Patchbay contacts Keygen, our licensing provider. It sends:

  • Your license key.
  • A one-way hash (SHA-256) of your Mac's hardware ID. The ID itself never leaves your Mac; the hash only lets us count each Mac once.
  • Your Mac's name, as set in System Settings, so you can tell your Macs apart in the license's seat list.
  • Your macOS version.

We use this only to check that a license is valid and to enforce its number of Macs. Keygen keeps these records for as long as the license exists. You can see your Macs and remove one in Patchbay under Settings › License; to have your license records deleted, email us. Keygen processes this data under Keygen's Privacy Policy. The free trial is tracked on your Mac only and sends nothing.

Update checks. About once a day, Patchbay downloads a small list of available versions from growl-audio.com. Like any web request, it carries your IP address and the app's version. These requests are served by Amazon Web Services (CloudFront), whose access logs we keep for 90 days to run the site, then delete. You can turn automatic checks off in Settings › General › Updates.

Bug and crash reports. Patchbay keeps copies of its own crash logs, and of crashes in macOS's audio service that involve Patchbay's driver, on your Mac (the newest 10). It never uploads them. When you choose Report a Bug, Patchbay opens a draft in your own mail app containing your description, your app and macOS versions, your Mac's model, your audio setup, and, if you leave them ticked, the last 10 minutes of Patchbay's log, a screenshot and the crash reports. Nothing is sent until you press Send. A report you send is handled like any other email to us (P5).

P4. Website Analytics

Our website uses Mixpanel, a product analytics service provided by Mixpanel, Inc. Mixpanel uses cookies and similar technologies to help us analyze how visitors use the site, including page views and interactions. We have configured Mixpanel to not collect IP addresses.

Mixpanel processes data in accordance with Mixpanel's Privacy Policy. We use this data solely to understand aggregate website usage and improve our site. We do not use Mixpanel for advertising, remarketing, or building individual user profiles.

You can opt out of Mixpanel tracking by visiting Mixpanel's opt-out page. You can also refuse cookies through your browser settings.

P5. Information You Voluntarily Provide

If you contact us by email or through any contact form, we will use the information you provide solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to mailing lists without your explicit consent, and we do not share your contact information with third parties.

P6. Newsletter Subscription

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we store the following on our own infrastructure: your email address, the date and time you subscribed, the page or source the signup came from, and the IP address the signup was sent from. The IP address and timestamp serve one purpose — evidencing that consent was actually given, should the signup ever be disputed.

We use this data only to send what the signup form describes: new plug-in releases, beta announcements, and the occasional behind-the-scenes note. We do not sell, rent, or share the list with anyone, and we do not use it for advertising or profiling. Our website analytics (Mixpanel, see P4) never receive your address.

Processors: the list is stored in Amazon DynamoDB and messages are delivered through Amazon SES, both operated by Amazon Web Services in the United States. No other third party receives your address.

Retention and removal: every message we send includes an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops all mail immediately; afterwards we keep a minimal record of the address so the opt-out is honored and you are not added back by mistake. To have that record erased entirely, email admin@growl-audio.com and we will delete it.

P7. Payment & Donation Processing

All donations and payments are processed by Paddle. When you make a donation, you interact directly with Paddle's payment interface. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Please review Paddle's Privacy Policy for details on how they handle your payment information.

P8. Cookies

Our website uses the following cookies:

  • mp_* — Mixpanel analytics cookies, used to track anonymous usage and distinguish visitors. Expires after 1 year.

These cookies are used for analytics purposes only and are not used for advertising or to build profiles across sites. You can disable cookies through your browser settings or opt out via Mixpanel's opt-out page.

P9. Third-Party Links

Our website may contain links to third-party sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites and encourage you to review their privacy policies before providing any personal information.

P10. Children's Privacy

Our software and website are not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us so we can delete it promptly.

P11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the website or software after any changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
